How every part of the app works, in short steps: the road map, your daily session, Shadow Studio, Phrase Lab, Practice, Practice Partner, Progress and your settings.
1Getting started
BE Mastery is a 12-week speaking programme: 25 focused minutes a day, and you speak in every session. Your progress saves on your phone as you go.
Install the app from Google Play or the App Store, and open it.
Answer the short welcome: your first name → the app language → where you want to learn (General English or Welding) → what you do → your #1 goal → when your daily 25 minutes is.
Your first win: tap Hear it first, then Tap & say it. This one sentence sets your starting point.
Allow the microphone when asked. Speaking is the whole point, so the recorder needs it.
You land on Home. It shows the next thing to do. Tap it and you are in day 1.
The welcome starts with your first name. The dots show the few steps left.
💡 Already have an account? Tap Log in on the first welcome screen and your progress comes back.
2🧱 Foundations — start here if English feels fast
The first time you open Home, a one-minute check plays three sentences and asks Did you understand this? Answer honestly — it only decides where you start. Three yeses open the full programme. Anything else starts Foundations.
Three sentences a day for fifteen days. Each one shows the English in large text, with a translation in your app language underneath.
Tap Hear, then Slow. Say the sentence aloud, then tap Record and say it again.
Record all three and the day is done. Online you also get a score for each word. The recording is what counts; the score is feedback.
From day 6 you hear a question first — a manager or supervisor asking something — and you say the short answer.
Day 15 opens everything. Until then, conversation practice shows Foundations first, with the one-minute check one tap away if you think you are ready.
💡 Why start here? The conversations use English at normal speed. Fifteen short days of saying the basic sentences first make them possible.
3🧭 Finding your way
Six tabs along the bottom of the screen. The BE Mastery logo at the top always takes you Home, and the name under it shows the programme you are in.

A number on Practice means saved words are ready to review.
A timer in the header appears while your 25-minute session timer is running. Tap it to go back to the session.
4🏠 Home
Home answers one question: what should I do now? Open the app and the next step is waiting at the top.
The top card is your next recommended step — usually today's session. Tap it to start.
Recommended for you suggests short extras: the AI coach, a partner, a challenge, words to review. Tap Not now to hide one.
Explore cards take you straight to Shadow, Practice Partner, your road map or your progress.
Lower down: the Practice Partner card, a card to switch programme, and the list of professional tracks.
💡 On Welding English Home is your career dashboard: today's mission, your profession and destination, and a coach recommendation.
5🗺️ Road map — the 12-week journey
The whole programme on one winding road. Stages you finished are lit with a ✓, your stage says You are here, the next one says Next, and everything further ahead is grey.
The road map: three phases, every week on one road, and a beacon where you are.
Take me to where I am scrolls straight to your pin.
Stage 0 is Foundations. Then come the 12 weeks, grouped in three phases: Foundation (weeks 1–4) → Workplace Fluency (5–8) → Executive Communication (9–12).
Review checkpoints sit after weeks 4, 8 and 12. The road ends at Your certificate, which unlocks when every session is done.
Tap a pin to open that week, then tap a day to open its session.
After you finish a session, a short progress strip slides up and shows your new pin lighting up. Tap it to see the full map.
💡 General English: a floating Talk to a real person button on the road map opens Practice Partner.
6⏱️ Your daily session
Every day has one page with everything you need for 25 minutes: the task, a timer, the phrases to use, a recorder and your speaking report.
A session page: the timer, the phrases to say aloud, your plan, and Record yourself.
Read the focus and the task at the top. If the day's real work is in another place (Shadow Studio, the week's phrases), a button takes you there.
Press ▶ Start on the timer. The 25-minute template fold shows what to do minute by minute.
Read "Say these aloud during this session" and fill in My example — what I plan to say. It opens with a starter for that day; finish it in your own words.
Record yourself. Speak for 20–60 seconds. When you stop, your take plays back so you hear yourself.
Your speaking report comes back below, judged against the day's task. No connection? The recording is kept; tap Get my report later.
Write your corrections in Session notes, give yourself a score from 1 to 10, and tap ✅ Mark session complete.
🎤 Speaking missions (General English)
On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, General English has a speaking mission instead: a real situation, how it sounds, the moves that make a strong answer, then your turn. Your coach's report comes straight after you speak, and you try once more. The day is ticked for you when you finish the mission.
🧍 Posture coach: on a session page you can switch on the posture coach. It uses the camera on your phone to check you sit upright — frames are checked on the phone and never saved or sent.
7🎯 Shadow Studio
Shadowing means speaking along with a native speaker to copy their rhythm and sound. Pick a video, choose a paragraph, and speak with it.
The library: search, groups, this week's pick and videos with transcripts.
Choose a video
The library: search What do you want to practise? or browse the groups — For you, All videos, Channels, This week.
Your own video: tap Paste a YouTube link, add the transcript if you have it, and tap ▶ Load video. The app keeps your last five under Your videos.
My clips and History sit at the foot of the page. History holds every report you have had, with your trouble words.
Four ways to practise (General English)
Mode
What you do
Watch
Watch the video. The transcript lights up paragraph by paragraph as it is spoken.
Shadow
One paragraph at a time. Tap any word to hear it, set the Speed, tap Record and speak with the speaker.
Challenge
Three levels — guided, recall, independent. You say the line with less help each time and get a coaching report with a word drill.
Apply it
Use a phrase from the video in a real conversation: with the AI coach, or with a practice partner.
Translate and Pronunciation. Two switches on the paragraph card in Shadow (and above the transcript in Watch). Translate shows the paragraph in your own language under the English. Pronunciation puts American-English sounds (IPA) under each word. Both are off until you turn them on, and the IPA is written by AI — a guide, not a verdict.
On Welding English, the Shadow tab gives you workshop lines to hear and say back: Say it like the shop says it.
8🗣️ Your speaking reports
Each time you record, the app tells you what went well and the one thing to work on next. There are two kinds of report.
After shadowing
Your score and verdict, what went well, one focus word, Shadow again — and the detail folded underneath.
Your score and a short verdict.
Four numbers: words you said clearly, pronunciation, pace, and filler words like "um".
What went well — two or three things you did right.
Today's focus — one word to fix. Tap it to hear it, say it, and try again until it is clear.
Shadow again starts the clip and the microphone for another take.
The detail — every word, your vocabulary, your history — is folded underneath. Open it when you want it.
After a session, a mission or Executive Polish
Your minute of speech comes back as five short stations:
Station
What it gives you
Hear how you came across
Pace, pauses, fillers and voice — the things a listener feels
Fix what went wrong
Your own words, corrected, with the rule
Build the stronger sentence
Your key message, a better structure, and sentence patterns to reuse
Upgrade your words
Stronger words, natural word pairs, new idioms and two full versions of your speech
Say it again
One quick win, and how well you used last time's targets
💡 Speak for 20 seconds or more. The more you say, the better the report. The pronunciation figure is marked approx. — background noise counts too, so treat it as a guide.
9💼 Phrase Lab & Executive Polish
Say something the way you would at work, and get it back the way a professional would say it.
Tap Record and speak for about a minute — a short update, an answer, a story. (The prompts on the card give you ideas.)
Stop. Your take plays back, your words appear in the box, and your five-station report builds underneath.
Another version rewrites what is in the box in a different style — new verbs, new idioms. Press it again for another. You can also type or paste text and use it.
Read it aloud reads the box to you. The bin clears it.
Your Polish history keeps your last five reports, each with your recording and what you said.
📌 Example
"before starting our project I need us to verify all the requirements"
→ "Before we kick off the project, we need to sign off on all the requirements."
The phrase bank
Each week has its own professional phrases and business idioms. Open them from that week on the road map. For each one: say it aloud, record your own sentence, and tap Mark mastered when it feels natural.
Executive Polish uses AI, so it needs an internet connection.
10💪 The Practice tab
Your toolbox for the extra minutes. The card at the top, Best tool for your step, marks the tool that fits today's session as Recommended.
Life Simulations
Practice Partner — practise with a real learner, or with the AI coach (General English). See the next topic.
Practise a real conversation — 14 work situations, from an interview to a salary talk, with an AI colleague who answers what you say (General English).
Professional Workplace Scenarios and the interview coaches — on Welding English.
Vocabulary & Grammar
My words — words you saved from your reports, ready to review. A green card tells you when some are due.
Saved expressions and Business idioms — the phrases you collected and every idiom in the programme.
Study cards, Pop quizzes and Word puzzles — quick games with your own words.
Conversation booster — a short game that puts your words into a conversation (General English).
Grammar and Grammar exercises — the rules your coach checks, and short drills that explain every answer.
💡 Spaced review: a word you get right comes back later, just before you would forget it.
11🤝 Practice Partner (General English)
Practise speaking with another learner on the same lesson — by voice messages, at your own pace. The AI coach is always there too.
Create your free account (if you have not), confirm you are 18 or older, and tell the app when you are usually free.
Match me → shows up to three learners who fit you. Or tap Practise now to start with whoever is ready.
Four rounds of voice messages on the day's lesson: you speak, they answer, and so on.
Then each of you decides whether to keep practising together. If you both say yes, you become regular partners.
No one free? Tap Or practise with the AI coach. AI replies are always marked AI.
Visible / Hidden: the switch at the top. Hidden takes you out of matching; you can still use the AI coach.
History keeps your past sessions. Clear my history deletes them.
You are in control: leave today's practice, end a partnership, block or report someone at any time. Blocked learners are listed in Change preferences, where you can unblock them.
🔒 Privacy: a voice message goes only to your partner, and is deleted on the schedule in the privacy policy. Your partner's voice is never saved in your history.
12📈 Progress
Everything you have done in the programme you are in, measured from what you actually said and recorded.
Progress: this week, your key numbers, and charts for pronunciation, vocabulary, speed and daily activity.
This week — how many days you practised against your goal.
Four numbers — your streak, sessions completed, words spoken in feedback, and your best pronunciation score.
The Progress Calendar — every day you practised lights up by itself. Tap a day for detail; the year grid shows the whole year.
Your certificate — a bar that fills as you go, and the certificate when you finish.
See all details — charts over 30 and 90 days, your Sunday reviews, and the checkpoints after weeks 4, 8 and 12.
📅 Every Sunday
Listen back to two recordings, score yourself on five sliders (clarity, fluency, pronunciation, business naturalness, confidence), write three wins, three weaknesses and three corrections, and save the review.
💡 One programme at a time. Progress shows the programme you have open. The banner at the top has a button to switch.
13🛠️ Welding English & switching programme
BE Mastery has two programmes: General English for professional life, and Welding English for welders, pipefitters and boilermakers. Same 12-week engine, different content.
Switch programme
Profile → Programme, then choose General English or Welding English. (The switch card on Home and the button on Progress do the same.)
You land on the new programme's Home, with a short "You're now in …" note.
Nothing is lost. Each programme keeps its own road map, progress, streak, words, clips and Polish history. Your settings, account and profile are shared.
What Welding English adds
Career Center — your career readiness, interview coaches, gap analysis, a résumé and LinkedIn coach, and what your destination expects. Open it from Home or from Career Destination on the Practice tab.
Interview coaches — twelve interviewers, each rehearsing one part of your working story. You speak your answers; the report shows what you covered, what you missed, and a strong answer to hear and say back.
Professional Workplace Scenarios — a team in the room with you: HR, the supervisor, tools, quality and safety. Whoever is speaking appears at the top.
Professional Skills Passport — in Progress → See all details: workshops practised and answers recorded.
After an interview: what you covered, what you missed, and a strong answer to say back.
Model answers show how to say what you checked and found. They are language practice, not trade instruction — your procedure, your supervisor and your qualification decide what is safe.
14👤 Account, sync & privacy
Profile is your settings page. Everything in the app is free, and an account is optional — but it keeps your progress safe.
Sign in: Profile → Backup & sync. Use your email and a password, or Continue with Google / Continue with Apple. Your progress then follows you to every device.
What is synced: progress, scores, notes, words and reviews. Recordings are not — they stay on the phone where you made them.
Back up by hand: Profile → Data & privacy → Export progress. Import progress brings it back on any device.
Your profile: tap your name at the top of Profile to change your name, role, goal and daily time.
Language, voice, appearance: Profile → App language, App voice and Appearance (light or dark).
🔒 Your recordings and privacy
Your recordings stay on your phone. A recording leaves it only when you ask for a speaking report (it is sent over an encrypted connection to be transcribed and scored), or when you send a voice message to a practice partner. The privacy policy lists every case and how long each is kept.
🗑️ Delete your account
Profile → Backup & sync → Delete account. It deletes your account, your synced progress and your Practice Partner data.
⛔ Reset everything (in Data & privacy) erases all progress and recordings on this phone. Export a backup first.
Every action that deletes something asks you first, and Cancel is the default.
15⏰ Reminders & widgets
Daily reminder
Profile → Daily reminder: switch it on and pick a time. The reminder tells you where you are on the road map and what is next. It stays quiet on days you have already practised, and never comes more than once a day. Tap it to open the app.
You can also put your practice in your calendar: Block the time, with Google Calendar or Apple / Outlook.
📱 Home-screen widget (iPhone)
In the App Store app, add a BE Mastery widget to your home screen: press and hold the home screen → + → BE Mastery. Choose Your road map (follows the programme you have open), General English or Welding English, in small, medium or large, or on the lock screen. It shows your streak, your stage and your next step. Tap it to open that step.
16🏆 Certificate & sharing
At the end of Progress: create your progress card, and watch your certificate unlock.
Your certificate unlocks on Progress when every session is done, with your name and the date. Share on LinkedIn saves the image and opens the post composer — attach the image you just saved.
Your progress card — Progress → See all details → Create progress card. The app draws your week, sessions and streak, and opens your share sheet.
Share the app (Profile) sends a plain invitation with the link — no progress attached.
Nothing is shared automatically. A card, certificate or invitation leaves your phone only when you tap the button.

18❓ FAQ & troubleshooting
The microphone does not work
Allow the microphone for BE Mastery: on iPhone, Settings → BE Mastery → Microphone; on Android the app runs on Chrome, so allow it for Chrome: Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions → Microphone. Then close the app fully, open it again, and tap Allow when it asks.
My report did not come back
Reports need an internet connection. Your recording is kept — tap Get my report when you are back online. A take under 8 seconds is too short for a report.
My progress disappeared
Sign in with the same account you used before (Profile → Backup & sync), or import your backup file (Profile → Data & privacy → Import progress).
The pronunciation score says "approx."
That figure is an estimate from what the speech engine heard. Background noise and a quiet microphone lower it. Use it as a guide, and trust the focus word.
Does it work offline?
Yes, for most of it: lessons, the road map, the phrase bank, recording and your calendar. Speaking reports, Executive Polish, Translate, conversations, Practice Partner and YouTube videos need a connection.
Does my voice go to a server?
Only when you ask for a speaking report or send a voice message to a partner — over an encrypted connection. Nothing is sent without an action from you.
Does the posture coach record me?
No. The camera is checked on your phone, frame by frame, and nothing is saved or sent. Turning it off releases the camera.
